$10,000/month by treating copywriting as a side hustle?
Someone on Reddit was asking how realistic it is to make $10,000/month with copywriting… while treating it as a side hustle.
Here are my thoughts:
A side hustle is something you do outside of your main job, to supplement your income.
So the first big obstacle is TIME.
Will you have enough time to study and practice copywriting, if you juggle a full-time job and a bunch of other responsibilities?
Maybe…
Maybe not…
Only YOU can know this.
Personally, when I started, I was in graduate school at Colorado State University studying elephant seals.
I hated it… and I needed a way out.
So I started learning copywriting to earn a few extra bucks.
But it was hard.
I was studying copywriting and writing my own sales letter whenever I had free time.
And keep in mind, I didn’t have a family. So I could do what I wanted with my time.
Your situation might be different and you have to account for this.
Then there’s another issue…
Finding, pitching, and delivering copy to clients.
This is what makes you money.
But on top of extra hours each week, getting clients can be emotionally draining.
You gotta deal with rejection, nasty responses, getting ghosted, and other negative aspects of this part of copywriting.
Can you do so while treating copywriting as a side hustle?
Again, this is for you to decide.

Ignoring your mental health can royally mess up your success as a copywriter.
So ask yourself:
How’s your day-to-day life right now?
Are you stressed or relaxed?
Do you feel emotionally drained, after work? If so, can you realistically study a new skill and deal with client work?
Those questions will give you guidance.
And they will help you discover whether copywriting can be a good side hustle for you or not.
As for hitting $10,000/month…
I know lots of people making that much (and more!) working 3-4 hours a day, 4-5 days a week.
That’s 12-20 hours a week, in total.
Not bad right?
So you can definitely hit $10,000/month as a copywriter without working full-time.
But you gotta be willing to do the work.
Plus you gotta have realistic expectations.
It might take you a while to hit the 10k/month mark…
But as long as you don’t quit and continue taking action, you WILL reach your goal.
