How to Fine-Tune Your Traffic Driver Emails Like a Pro

copywriting Jul 23, 2022

A while back Andrew shared a traffic driver email to my Facebook group, looking for feedback.

As I've said, traffic driver emails are the simplest, easiest, and fastest entry point to copywriting today.

You can charge from $50 to $1,000 a pop.

This means you can hit 6-figures per year writing just those short emails.

As a coach, I always encourage students to write at least 3 traffic driver emails a day...

...to build their copywriting muscle.

Anywho, today I wanna review Andrew's work and offer valuable feedback that can help anyone fine-tune their emails.

Here's what he wrote:

Have you ever felt buried under the weight of developing an entire fantasy world?

How can you create an entire history, including all the characters who shaped it? Where do you start?!

Scribe Forge uses real human psychology explained in simple terms. Then, these concepts are used to examine characters you’ll recognize from popular sci-fi and fantasy. Finally, you’ll apply that knowledge to create compelling characters that stay with your readers long after they’ve closed your book.

First things first...

Andrew forgot the subject line.

I can't review something that doesn't exist, so here's a quick tip on subject lines:

Your #1 goal is to stand out from other subject lines in the market.

Let's say everyone uses specific verbs to talk about benefits.

Look for variations of those verbs and use them.

This way, you stand out while keeping benefits the same.

Next, let's look at the email as a whole.

The first thing that jumps out at me is the two GIGANTIC walls of text:

Finally, you’ll apply that knowledge to create compelling characters that stay with your readers long after they’ve closed your book.

This is bad since most people nowadays read email on their mobile.

And I bet BitCoins to donuts that they'll skip huge chunks of text.

Luckily, the solution is simple:

Turn each sentence into a paragraph.

So the first wall of text turns into:

Scribe Forge uses real human psychology explained in simple terms.

Then, these concepts are used to examine characters you’ll recognize from popular sci-fi and fantasy.

Finally, you’ll apply that knowledge to create compelling characters that stay with your readers long after they’ve closed your book.

More eye-friendly, right?

It's OK to have a chunky paragraph every once in a while...but don't overdo it.

Finally, let's review the first line of the email:

Have you ever felt buried under the weight of developing an entire fantasy world?

Sweet opening sentence because it's a head nodder.

A head nodder is a sentence that makes people nod their heads and continue reading.

My only suggestion is to trim it.

So instead of:

Have you ever felt buried under the weight of developing an entire fantasy world?

Start with...

Ever felt overwhelmed when developing a fantasy world?

14 words versus 8.

Same meaning...

Yet the shorter version punches harder.

I won't comment on the rest of the email since I'm not familiar with the market.

But kudos to Andrew and anyone who just sits down and writes.

Believe it or not, beginners don't fail because they're inexperienced.

They fail because they don't pump out lots of "crappy" writing.

("Crappy" according to them, not me. Anyone who writes consistently gets a Ning Li fist bump 🤜 🤛 )

See, the more you write the closer you are to enjoying a full-time income as a copywriter.

All you need is course correction and feedback on your copy.

This is where I come in.

Every week, I hop on Zoom with students of my "Zero to $5K" program to review their copy, give feedback, and catapult their progress.

The bad news is that "Zero to $5K" is closed right now.

But we'll open it up again soon.
